She looks into the Australian landscape, especially its coastal edges, to map patterns in the undergrowth. In this process the land we see everyday turns rare and mysterious. Untitled (Grasses) exemplifies this. The silhouette of grasses ripple up the page, a shadow growing from the bright white beneath. Heffernan has used rice paper, imbuing the work with an enigmatic fragility. Grass becomes skin.
