Its surface is glass smooth it the small exception of a blotch of pitting at the 9 Oclock position which will not affect cooking in the least

Don't miss this one! smallblock IMPORTANT: It‘s in wonderful shapeIMPORTANT: This waffle iron is almost perfect except for some sulfur pitting on the outside of the one paddle. All others are perfect condition. We have discounted this down as a result. The handles have customary wear and tear from its age, showing again some use over a sulfur fire. The natural wood had darkened from use so we restored them with a black paint to match the japanned base. Japanning was a process of painting the bases of some waffle
