Rare Georgian Cameo of Mars + Venus at Vulcan’s Forgr April 4th possibly TahitianStyles were dramatic and ornate during the Georgian era, thanks partly to intricate metalwork techniques such as cannetille (a method of working the gold wire to make it look woven), as we can see in this pair. This metalworking technique, very popular in the 1820s and 30s, involved intricate wirework designs. Cannetille resembles embroidery inspired filigree. Here we have an extraordinarily rare Greco Roman tableau cameo of the early 19th century
